Director's Statement
THE CITY OF LOST TEMPLES began as a deeply personal exploration of loss and cultural erasure. Before even coming to Lahore, I was always aware of the city's diversity, but it wasn't until I discovered the forgotten Hindu temples that I understood how easily parts of our history can fade away. These temples, once vibrant centers of community, became symbols of the marginalized groups forgotten over time.
As I walked through these ruins, I couldn't help but reflect on my own experiences of alienation and the feeling of being overlooked or dismissed because of identity. This personal connection drove me to tell a story not only about these temples, but about the broader struggle to preserve our shared heritage amidst political shifts and cultural loss.
The process of making this film—navigating obstacles and uncovering forgotten histories—was a journey of self-discovery. My hope is that THE CITY OF LOST TEMPLES resonates with viewers, urging them to reflect on their own history and the importance of remembering the past to protect our collective future.
