Synopsis

In a parched corner of rural Pakistan, a young farmer toils under the crushing weight of a feudal lord’s control, where even the water for his fields comes at a cost too steep to bear. Years of injustice have silenced him, but when a visiting journalist arrives, he dares to break the chains of fear and speak out. This act of courage, however, does not go unnoticed. Captured by the lord’s enforcers, the farmer is dragged before the very man who has stolen his land and crushed his spirit. As the farmer stands at the crossroads of defiance and despair, the haunting legacy of his father’s fatal rebellion against the same oppressor looms large—setting the stage for a gripping tale of courage, sacrifice, and the generational fight for justice.

Director's Statement

The director draws inspiration from countless untold stories of rural oppression, where survival comes at the cost of dignity and freedom. SUWA is a reflection of the harsh realities faced by those who dare to defy a deeply rooted system of power. The farmer’s story is not just his own—it’s a generational struggle, a tribute to those who fight for justice even when the odds are stacked against them. Through this film, the director seeks to shed light on the human cost of unchecked power and the resilience it takes to stand up against it, no matter the consequences.
